An effective safety program provides an employer with the advantages of law compliance, but also with commercial, psychological and productivity outcomes. The consequences of not focussing on safety in the workplace include high social and financial costs in the form of higher workers compensation premiums and injury claims. Increased commercial and legal risk to managers, and downturn in productivity is also high on agenda and impact all business. Less measurable, but no less important, is the impact that neglecting safety can have on staff moral, and on the companies reputation that is portrayed to both internal and external stakeholders.
